Chairman’s Letter

Our special meeting for the VEBA explanation had an overflow turn out.  There were 658 members & surviving spouses that came to hear the overview from Attorney Mike Saggau, representing the UAW on VEBA, Willard Beck, UAW Region 9 Truck Council representative and Ed Balukas, UAW 677 President. There were many good questions asked and answered and the ones not answered will be by the next meeting. We learned that the plan is the settlement of Mack Trucks’ lawsuit against the UAW to stop the payment of retirees’ health care and the UAW’s class action suit to stop them from doing that.  Under the current economic conditions, the UAW feels this VEBA is the best solution for our retirees.

You will be receiving a package in the mail explaining your coverage and a phone number to call to arrange for you and your guest to come to a meeting on August 5 at either 9am or 1pm to hear about the plan and ask questions. If need be, there will be one on August 19.

Our business meeting on the second Wednesday of each month includes a special refreshment along with the usual chips, pretzels, beer, soda and coffee. We also give away many items, including $10 to one member who is present, and an extra $5 if that member is wearing a UAW shirt. We've given away over 200 shirts last year alone. There are also $5 gift certificates from The Meadows of Hellertown  for the birthday and anniversary of the month. There is also a complimentary special bingo game worth $50 given to those who are playing bingo, in addition to our regular bingo.
The annual Picnic and Christmas parties are always sold out each year, so buy your tickets early and come meet up with former fellow co-workers and friends.
I invite you and a guest to join the fun and camaraderie by stopping by every Wednesday, if not to play bingo but to socialize from 12:00 to 1:00 with a snack and drink, and every second Wednesday for our monthly business meeting.
